Claude review (2026): pricing, features and who it's for

What it costs, and the two plans people mix up

Free is $0. Pro is $17 a month billed annually, or $20 billed monthly. Above that sit two separate Max plans that get merged all the time. Max 5x is $100 a month for five times Pro's usage. Max 20x is $200 a month for twenty times. Both are monthly billing only, so paying for a year saves you nothing there.

For a shop, Team is $20 per member a month on a year deal, or $25 monthly, from 2 members up to 150. A heavier premium seat is $100 per member annually or $125 monthly. Enterprise is quote only, billed annually, and needs 20 seats to buy on your own or 50 through a salesperson.

Read the Enterprise line twice if you get that far. The seat fee does not include usage. Usage is billed on top at the metered rates Anthropic charges software developers, so the monthly bill is not a fixed number you can budget against.

At small crew sizes the math is close. You and your office manager on two Pro seats costs $34 a month on a year deal. The same two on Team costs $40. You pay $6 a month more for shared projects and admin control.

One wrinkle to watch: Anthropic's help centre lists Pro at $20 a month or $200 a year, while its pricing page says $17 a month billed annually. $200 a year works out to $16.67 a month. We used the pricing page figure. Check what your card is charged.

It reads the manual, drawings and all

This is the strongest thing on Claude's record for a trade business. Drop in a PDF and it looks at the pictures as well as the words, up to 100 pages. From 101 to 1000 pages it handles text only and stops looking at the visual parts.

So a 60 page install manual is read whole, wiring diagram included. A 400 page commercial service manual is read as words. That 100 page line is the number to remember, because it is where the half of the document you cared about stops being read.

Uploads take PDF, DOCX, CSV, TXT, HTML, ODT, RTF, EPUB, JSON and XLSX, at 500 MB per file and up to 20 files in one chat. One limit is not advertised: files that are not PDFs get their text pulled out only, so a photo pasted into a Word document is dropped.

Photos work on any plan. JPEG, PNG, GIF and WebP up to 8000 by 8000 pixels, and Anthropic suggests 1000 by 1000 or larger for a usable answer. No vendor publishes an accuracy figure for reading a model number off a rusty nameplate, so treat the answer as a starting point.

Where it fits into a working week

The jobs it suits are the ones that eat your evening. Sorting next week into a plan. Turning a voice note into a written scope. Rewriting the standard operating procedures nobody has touched in years. It is a paperwork tool, and the accounts that ring true from working trades are all paperwork accounts.

None of that replaces a dispatch system. It sits next to one, or in front of one if you are still running the week off a whiteboard and a phone.

The free plan stops and nobody tells you when

Free gets a lot on paper: chat on web, phone and desktop, web search, memory across conversations, file creation and connectors.

Then you hit a wall you could not have planned for. Anthropic publishes no messages per day figure, no upload cap and no hours figure for the free plan. Its help page says limits reset on a rolling five hour window and there is no fixed message count. Its plan page describes free capacity as "Limited" and Pro as "Standard". That is the whole disclosure.

Set that against what the other two publish. OpenAI states 3 file uploads a day on its free tier. Google states 10 files at up to 100 MB each. Both are small numbers, and both let an owner work out in advance whether free covers the job. Claude does not. For a shop mid-quote on a Friday afternoon, a cap you cannot see is the harder one to work around.

Voice is a beta, and there is no truck story

You can talk to it hands-free. Anthropic labels voice mode a beta on its own help page. It runs on free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, on iPhone, Android, desktop and the web, and it is built to work best from your phone. Continuous listening is the default, and it answers at natural pauses in your speech.

Two things keep it off our list for driving. The same page says hands-free works best in quiet environments, and a truck cab with a diesel idling is not one. And there is no CarPlay or Android Auto support documented at all. OpenAI publishes a CarPlay help article. Google documents locked screen use and a voice command to start. Anthropic documents neither, so on the road this is a phone in a cradle.

Support is thin as well. Help articles and a contact form. We could not find a published support phone number anywhere on Anthropic's sites. OpenAI at least publishes an automated line, and Google Workspace plans include Google support. Compared like for like, this is the weakest support of the three.

What not to hand it, and who should buy

Do not let it write in your voice with you out of the loop. Customers can tell, and so can the general contractors you bid to. A page of tidy paragraphs where two lines belonged reads as effort you did not put in, and that costs you more than the ten minutes it saved.

Do not spend a week choosing between the three, either. Set one up properly, put your quote format and your real prices in front of it, and get on with the day.

Buy Pro at $17 a month if your paperwork arrives as PDFs with drawings in them, if you write scopes and procedures, and if you work sitting down rather than driving. Buy Team at $20 a member if two or more of you need the same saved instructions and the same shared work.

Pick something else if hands-free in the cab is the whole reason you are buying. ChatGPT publishes a CarPlay integration on every plan including free, and that is a documented answer where Claude has none. Pick something else too if you need to know your free ceiling before you commit, because Anthropic does not publish one.
