FieldEdge vs ServiceTitan (2026): which fits your HVAC shop?

Our call: for an established HVAC or plumbing shop that wants real depth without an enterprise bill, FieldEdge is the one to start with. It runs the daily service, dispatch, and invoicing work and syncs tightly to QuickBooks. ServiceTitan is the deeper, pricier platform, and it earns its keep once you are larger, scaling, and running the business from the office with someone whose full-time job is to drive the software.

Neither vendor publishes a price, so both sets of figures below are what owners report. FieldEdge lands around $100 to $150 per user per month (reported), billed per user including office staff, so back-office headcount adds to the bill. ServiceTitan runs about $245 to $350 per tech per month, with one HVAC owner putting it at $280 a technician, on top of a setup bill commonly quoted in the thousands and a 12-month minimum. Do the arithmetic on a six-tech shop: FieldEdge sits near $600 to $900 a month, ServiceTitan near $1,680 before implementation even hits. That is roughly double, every month, before setup.

So who should pick ServiceTitan anyway? A larger, office-run operation with the volume to justify it, a dedicated admin to run it, and a real appetite for its reporting and dispatch depth. If that is you, the platform converts that cost into control you cannot get elsewhere. If it is not, FieldEdge does the same daily HVAC and plumbing jobs for a fraction of the money, and the reliability hiccups and price creep owners flag on it are a smaller tax than a year-long enterprise contract you outgrew the budget for.

What each one costs

Both vendors gate their pricing behind a demo, so we date and label every figure as reported. FieldEdge's page is a booking form (verified August 2026), and owners put it around $100 to $150 per user per month. The important part is the billing model: FieldEdge charges per user, and owners report office staff and dispatchers are billed too (commonly around $100 per office user plus $125 per field tech), so back-office headcount adds to the total.

ServiceTitan hides its price the same way, quotes per technician, and adds a setup bill plus a 12-month minimum. Shops that pay report roughly $245 to $350 per tech per month. One HVAC operator who left that tier for a cheaper tool put the number plainly: "Service titan is the Gucci of CRMs but we’re talking $280 a technician! Value not there". Take that $280 across six techs and you are at about $1,680 a month before a dollar of implementation. A six-tech FieldEdge shop at $100 to $150 a user lands near $600 to $900. The feature sets are not identical, but the order-of-magnitude gap is the whole reason shop size decides this.

The QuickBooks question

FieldEdge grew up as a QuickBooks companion, and that is still its clearest edge for an established shop. If your books already live in QuickBooks and your bookkeeper is not going to move, FieldEdge's sync keeps invoicing, payments, and job costing flowing into the ledger you already run. FieldEdge lists QuickBooks among its integrations (verified on its site, August 2026), and owners point to it as a reason to stay in that lane.

ServiceTitan pushes the other direction. It wants to be the system of record, with its own accounting layer, and for a large operation standardizing everything on one platform, that is a strength. For a smaller shop it can become friction, because you are moving your books onto the platform's terms rather than the other way around. If you want your trade software to serve QuickBooks rather than replace it, FieldEdge is the closer fit, and that pull is a big part of why established shops that already run QuickBooks stay in the mid-market lane instead of climbing to enterprise.

Where FieldEdge fits, and where it frustrates

FieldEdge sits in the middle of the market on purpose: deeper than the budget field-run tools, cheaper and lighter than enterprise. Owners describe it as easy for techs and good for smaller companies, and more than one shop that tried to move up to ServiceTitan came straight back. As one HVAC tech told it: "I use field edge because it's what the company provides. It's pretty easy to navigate and gives technicians a decent amount of control over invoices and working status, so probably good for smaller companies. We tried to transition to service titan and it was a total nightmare. Instantly went back to field edge."

We are not going to sell it as flawless. The gripe that recurs is reliability. One tech whose shop used it said, "Last company I worked for used FieldEdge. It’s decent, mostly intuitive and easy to use. But it seemed like there was always an issue or an outage." And it is not the cheap option in its class; a shop comparing it to Housecall Pro noted, "I like housecall pro more than field edge. Plus field edge is more expensive." Price creep is real too: a FieldEdge customer flagged in April 2026 that "We were just notified of a 12% price increase effective June 2026. I haven't perceived a 12% increase in the software's reliability or value, and this seems out of line with a reasonable annual increase. I would expect 3-5%, but 12% matches our health insurance premium increase." Budget for the software going up, and lean on FieldEdge's support during the outages.

What ServiceTitan buys you, and who it is for

When ServiceTitan fits, it is the deeper product, full stop. Its reporting, dispatch, and configurability are why larger home-service companies standardize on it, and some operators prefer it once they are inside it. One tech who had used both said flatly, "I have used housecall pro and hated it current company y uses service titan I like it better." That is the honest ceiling: more capable, built to run a shop from the office.

The catch is that the same depth is what makes it wrong below a certain size. Owners who bought it and backed out are common, and their complaint is cost against value, not capability. One who flopped from Service Fusion to ServiceTitan and regretted it said, "I agree. I use service fusion, we flopped to service titan. It is expensive! And for what ir does, in my opinion, it's not worth it. Service fusion is like your grandma's car. Old, clunky, but it works. Service titan is like a Lamborghini, flashy and always broken in so e way." Even a shop that stuck with ServiceTitan and shopped FieldEdge as an escape summed up the mismatch: "I stand by my original assessment. Its a bad fit for my organization, too fancy for its own good, and I wish I had kept things simple for longer. We are paying more than we should be for software at this stage in our company." If you have the office staff, the tech count, and the volume, that depth pays off. If you do not, you are buying capacity you will not touch.

Our call, and how to decide

Start with the org chart, not the feature list. If your books live in QuickBooks, your crew runs the trucks, and nobody is full-time in the office to operate an enterprise system, FieldEdge is the home: mid-market depth, per-user pricing, no meter on every office seat. Get the demo, negotiate on the per-user rate, and go in knowing you will see occasional outages and annual increases.

Reach for ServiceTitan when the office is ready to drive it: a larger, scaling operation with a dedicated admin, the volume to justify $245 to $350 per tech, and a real need for its reporting and dispatch depth. That is the reader who should pick the pricier tool, and we would not talk them out of it. If you want to see how that enterprise bill breaks down before you commit, our ServiceTitan pricing breakdown lays out the reported numbers and contract terms. And if this whole comparison has you wondering whether you need this much software at all, the cheaper field-run route is worth a look; we walk through it in Housecall Pro vs ServiceTitan. The upgrade path from FieldEdge upward stays open once you have grown into it. Unwinding a year-long ServiceTitan contract you outgrew the budget for is the expensive mistake, so our default for the established mid-market shop is FieldEdge.
