Run the jobs

The best dispatch software for trades

A dispatch board earns its money on the bad days. A callback runs long, a no-access job frees up a tech, and an emergency comes in at ten. You have to see who is close and free, move three jobs, and tell four customers what changed. That is a different job from booking next week, and these tools split hard on it.

I want the tool that covers the most ground. Ranked by how many of this category's jobs the tool does out of the box. Features that cost extra count for less than ones that are included, and we do not reward a long feature list if half of it is an add-on.

What decides it in dispatch & routing

Seeing who is closest, not just free

Rebuilding the board mid-morning takes two facts: who is open and who is nearby. Live crew locations on the map turn that from a guess into a decision. ServiceTitan, FieldEdge, Workiz, GorillaDesk and Synchroteam all show tech locations in real time. Housecall Pro includes tech GPS from the Essentials tier at $149 a month (as of August 2026). Service Autopilot reads location from the crew app. Service Fusion sells GPS fleet tracking as a paid add-on, so its board shows you availability and nothing about location until you buy it. If your trucks cover a whole metro area, a board with no map is a board you will second-guess every time you move a job.

Telling the customer before they call you

Every change you make on the board breaks a promise to somebody. The tools that save you the most office time are the ones that text the customer for you. ServiceTitan sends automatic SMS reminders and on-the-way dispatch texts, with two-way texting on the board itself. FieldEdge sends automated reminders by text, email or phone call. Service Fusion runs two-way messaging with customers. Workiz sends on-my-way texts, but two-way texting needs the phone add-on. Synchroteam sends SMS and email confirmations. Count the calls your office fields in a week asking where the tech is. That number is what this feature is worth to you, and it is usually more than the tier upgrade costs.

Big boards cost per tech, not per shop

Per-seat pricing hits dispatch-heavy shops hardest, because dispatchers and office staff need logins too. ServiceTitan publishes no price. It is reported at about $235 to $350 per tech per month, on a 12-month minimum that auto-renews, with a setup fee reported at $15,000 to $30,000 or more (as of August 2026). FieldEdge is quote-only and reported at roughly $100 to $150 per user per month. Synchroteam charges about $31 per user a month billed annually, counting admins and managers as users. Service Fusion goes the other way with a flat plan and unlimited users, so putting a second person on the board costs nothing. Run your own headcount, office included, before you compare any of these.
